Quick answer
GeraFarm connects smallholder farmers across Ghana directly to hotels, supermarkets, processors, and exporters. Listings priced per kilogram in ₵; payout settles to the farmer's MTN MoMo, Vodafone Cash, or AirtelTigo Money on delivery; produce destined for export meets COCOBOD, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) requirements.
Regulation: COCOBOD, EPA, GSA, FDA, MoFA
Cocoa exports from Ghana are regulated by the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), which sets the annual producer price and manages the Licensed Buying Company (LBC) network. Other agricultural exports run under the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) via the Plant Protection and Regulatory Services Directorate (PPRSD) for phytosanitary certification, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for pesticide compliance, and the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) for quality and the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) for processed food. Farmer KYC and payout data are processed under the Data Protection Act 2012 (Act 843).
How pricing works
- Farmers list produce per kg in ₵, with photos and harvest date.
- Buyers (hotels, Melcom, Shoprite, Palace, processors, exporters) place orders at listed price.
- GeraFarm fee is 5% — lower than the 20–35% markup typical of traditional middlemen.
- Transport options priced transparently via partner cooperatives, Jetstream, Kobo360, or Gera-owned logistics.
- Cocoa listings route through COCOBOD-licensed LBCs with the farmer-gate price honoured.
MTN MoMo payout: T+0 to the farmer
The Bank of Ghana supervises mobile-money operations and has made Ghana one of the most advanced MoMo markets in Africa. For farmers in the Ashanti, Eastern, Western, Bono, and Volta regions who often live far from a bank branch, MTN MoMo is the only practical payout rail. GeraFarm settles the farmer the same day the buyer confirms delivery, net of the 5% fee. Bank-account payouts to ADB, GCB, Ecobank, Fidelity, and Cal Bank are also supported via GhIPSS.

Cities and aggregation hubs

ECOWAS cross-border trade
Under the ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme (ETLS) and AfCFTA, Ghanaian agri-exports qualify for preferential duties in Nigeria, Côte d'Ivoire, Togo, Burkina Faso, and beyond. GeraFarm bundles phytosanitary paperwork, Certificate of Origin (ETLS), and logistics. Major regional buyers on the platform source Ghanaian cocoa, cashew, and pineapple under AfCFTA terms.
